£100 PRIZE GOES NORTH
Axemen At Nelson (N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, January 1. A Bay of Plenty axeman, R. Scaletti, won the top prize of £lOO for the 12-inch standing A-class chop at the Richmond axemen’s carnival. His time was 20 seconds. Yesterday’s big prize of £lOO went to B. Herlihey, who completed the 14-inch underhand A-class chop in 36.45ec. Some of New Zealand’s best axemen, including the New Zealand team captain G. Hocquard, competed in the carnival which ended today. A Karamea axeman, R. Thain, won £lOO today in two events —£30 for the 12-inch standing C-class chop, and £7O for the 13-inch B-class standing chop.
