FALL OVER CUFF

Fatality At ■ Festivities (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 2. A youth was fatally hurt when he fell 40 feet down a cliff during New Year celebrations at Bull creek, 12 miles from Milton. He was: Gordon Hastie, aged 20, son of Mr and Mrs J. M. Hastie, of 12 Scott street, Milton. He was employed at the South Otago freezing works at Balclutha.

Most of the holiday makers had left a bonfire on the cliff’s edge by 1.30 a.m. when Mr Hastie walked over the edge of the cliff in the darkness, falling on to rocks. He was brought to the top of the cliff and taken to Milton in his mother’s car and admitted to hospital. Later, he was taken to Balclutha Hospital and from there to Dunedin Hospital, where he died.
