Nelson Outplays Canterbury B

The Canterbury B team was dismissed for 196 in reply to Nelson’s first innings total of 331, in a two-day match which ended at Trafalgar Park, Nelson, on Saturday. The feature of Nelson’s innings on Friday was the excellent stroke-play shown by L. B. Reade in compiling 103, including 14 fours, in 183 minutes. The scoring was restricted by the medium-pace bowlers, all of whom toiled honestly, with some accurate overs from 1. Cameron. Canterbury lost J. A. Mills just before stumps on Friday and, after the loss of J. R. Veitch to a good ball, the visitors never recovered. The Nelson attack was consistent rather than hostile but the Canterbury B batsmen could not capitalise on the promising start most of them made. When Nelson batted again. J. W. Burtt completed a hattrack, finishing with three for 14. Scores:— NELSON First Innings L. B. Reade, c Ruston, b Thomas . . 102 G, E. Lowans, lbw, b Dawson 29 G. Douglas, c Harrison, b Dawson .11 B.
