North Vietnam in 1965. A strike sortie was defined as a flight by one aircraft attacking at least one enemy target Results of these raids included 35 bridges destroyed, roads cut at 2050 points and railway lines smashed at 286 places. Losses were put at 80 planes with 55 airmen listed missing, eight known dead and six captured in North Vietnam. Rescue crews picked up 48 downed airmen. The Air Force said 50,000 strike sorties were flown over South Vietnam and 56,670 tons of bombs dropped.
