MELBOURNE.
England has named 13 players from which to select its team to play in the second test against Australia, starting in Melbourne today.
The selectors were unable to name a final eleven because the fast bowler, K. Higgs, is unwell. Higgs has been named in the 13 but his fitness to play will not be known until this morning. D. Brown, England’s other fast bowler in the first test, already was unavailable because of bursitis of the left elbow.
Higgs felt unwell on the plane which flew the team from Adelaide to Melbourne on Tuesday night He also complained of a sore throat. The 13 named are: M. J. K. Smith (captain), M. C. Cow-
drey, D. A. Allen. R. W. Barber, K. F. Barrington, G. Boycott, J. H. Edrich, K. Higgs, I. J. Jones, B. R. Knight, J. M. Parks, E. W. Russell, F, J. litmus.
The three newcomers in the provisional 13 are Cowdrey, Jones and Knight
If Higgs is unable to play, Knight the only other recognised pace bowler in the touring side, must go into toe team.
Cowdrey’s Inclusion eould mean the dropping of either Russell or Edrich.
There must be doubt over Russell, who has not played for two weeks since splitting the webbing between fingers on his right band, in Brisbane.
