TROTTING ROBIN DUNDEE WINS AUCKLAND CUP EASIL Y

South Island runners dominated the finish of the Auckland Trotting Cup on the second night of the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Epsom last night, with Robin Dundee winning the event easily from Gay Robin and Orbiter.

The North Island hope. Great Adios, was fourth, ahead of Disband. another South Island runner. Robin Dundee was well back and buried on the fence at the half-mile, but she soon got clear and hit the front at the top of the straight. From then on nothing else had a chance and the Southland mare won as she liked. It was rich compensation for her unlucky second in the New Zealand Trotting Cup at Addington earlier this year when she was forced to race three wide for the last round and her win last night was well received by the crowd of 20,000 which made her a warm favourite.

Gipsy Hanover led the Cup field after a furlong with Goldcourt and Garcon d'Or together next. Then came Smokeover, Orbiter, Rannack Song, Robin Dundee, Avante. Great Adios, Vai Averil, Gay Robin, Garry Dillon, Bobbinet, Glenurquhart and Oakhampton. Gypsy Hanover led past the mile and was still in front four furlongs from home. There he was followed by Glenurquhart, Rannack Song. Golcourt, Great Adios, Orbiter, Disband, Gay Robin, Avante, Vai Averil, Garry Dillon and Robin Dundee, which was boxed in on the rails.

Turning for home. Great Adios dashed to the front but almost immediately Robin Dundee went past him. She continued to an easy win.

The T.A.B. double was completed by Grande Garnison, which led all the way to win the December Handicap. The Robin Dundee-Grande Garnison combination paid £55 5s 6d for £l. The second leg was marred by a smash in the early stages involving the favourite and off-course substitute, Vista Abbey.

The meeting was held in fine weather on a fast track.
