HANDS OFF.—This sign was posted at the old Anacostia naval air station, near Washington, by the commanding officer, Captain H. F. Rommel, who supervised the cleaning up of a muddy triangle and turning it into a garden planted with 150 trees, mostly evergreens. Captain Rommel Said: “I jokingly said to put up a sign stating that anyone caught tampering with the new trees would be shot .. . no trees have been stolen yet.” He added that some of the evergreens might be tempting to someone wanting a Christmas tree.
