Obituary MR A. B. WILLIAMS

The death occurred today at Te Puia of Mr Arnold Beatham Williams, an East Coast pioneer farmer, who had spent more than 70 of his 95 years developing country in the area. His father, Mr James Nelson Williams, once owned and leased more than 100,000 acres. Mr Williams was born in Hawke’s Bay and educated at Christ’s College and Cambridge University. Late in life Mr Williams married the widow of Mr A. M. Beale, who died some years ago. He was a patron of racing, owning Chortle, Rapine and Star Stranger, among many other fine performers. He was for a number of years Hawke’s Bay County Council and Hospital Board chairman.
