APPRENTICE PAINTERS
Reduction In Hours

AUCKLAND, Dec. 28.
A reduction in appenticeship hours for painters from 10,000 hours to 8000 hours has been approved by the Arbitration Court.
Also, the court has approved additional credits of 500 hours for apprentices passing their first qualifying examination, 500 hours for the second qualiflying examination and the payment of full tradesmen’s wages for the last 1000 hours to apprentices who have passed the trade certification examination.
The court order is backdated to December 22 and will take effect from the same day. The order means that apprentices can now receive a full journeymen’s wages after 6000 hours.
The secretary of the Auckland Guild of Master Painters (Mr R. A. Waite) said today the guild was delighted with the new order.
