The British actress, Julie Christie, and “Darling,” the British-made film in which she starred, were voted best actress and best film of 1965 by the New York Film Critics’ Circle.
John Schlesinger, who directed “Darling,” was named best director. The best actor award went to the German actor, Oskar Werner, for his role as the ship’s doctor in “Ship of Fools.” Federico Fellini’s “Juliet of the Spirits” was voted the best foreign-language film. The awards, voted by 17 critics, will be presented on January 29. Miss Christie, aged 24, arrived in New York earlier this month for the premier of “Dr. Zhivago,” in which she has a star role.
In “Darling” she played the part of a model who becomes a member of the international jet set and marries an Italian prince.
