MELBOURNE, Dec. 28.
Two women were remanded on bail for one week in Melbourne today after being charged with harbouring the Pentridge Gaol escapers, Peter Ryan and Ronald Walker.
The women are Christina Evelyn Aitken, aged 22, a clerk, and Patricia Meryl Puccini, aged 29, a domestic.
The constable who arrested the two women, Ronald Jackson, told the Court that after Ryan and Walker escaped they went to Puccini’s home and asked where Aitken was. Aitken came to Puccini’s house several times and saw Walker, who gave her money to buy hair dye for him, Jackson said.
She then went with Walker and Ryan to a flat in suburban Elwood where she stayed with them and her two-year-old daughter. Aitken had also traded in her old car for the escapers and bought another. She had
also put a deposit on a house in Frankston for the men. The search for the two men is continuing. Police have answered dozens of reported sightings, but all have proved unfounded.
The Deputy Commissioner of the Victoria police force (Mr Petty) said today that the men might be holding a family hostage. He said they must be getting shelter somewhere.
