PROSPECTS RETIRE

r pWO players who had x been mentioned as prospects for selection for the 1966 British Rugby League tour of Australia and New Zealand have retired. They are the stand-off half, B. Gabbitas (Hunslet), and the Castleford centre, J. Gamble. The latter’s decision caused great surprise for Gamble is still only 21 and made his country debut only this year. He gave no reason for his decision.

Gabbita’s retirement after 13 years of senior footbad was forced by a facial injury. He played only two matches in the current season. Gabbitas was joint winner (with the Wigan fullback, R. Ashby), of the Lance Todd Trophy as the “Player of the Match” in last season’s Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
