PEGASUS SAILS

Taiaroa At Oamaru

H.M.N.Z.M.L. Pegasus sailed for Picton at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, without the Taiaroa, the motor-launch of the Otago division of the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve. The Taiaroa, which was to have met the Pegasus on Monday evening in Lyttelton, is at Oamaru for repairs to damage caused by heavy seas on Monday. Both radar and compass have been damaged. The resident naval officer in Christchurch (LieutenantCommander C. J. Carl) said yesterday morning that the Taiaroa, which arrived at Oamaru early in the morning, would probably stay there for at least 24 hours. She would then continue to Lyttelton, collect an engineer and proceed to Picton.

Originally it was planned that after their rendezvous the two motor-launches would leave at 1 p.m. for the annual sea exercises in the Marlborough Sounds.
