ALL WITH NEEDLES

GV.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright)

LONDON, Dec. 22.

Mrs Gwen Matthewman, Yorkshire’s “knitting champion of the world,” has set a hand-knitting wool record by using 1515 oz. of wool so far this year.

By December 31 she should have used 1600 oz., the Wool Secretariat said today.

Last year she used 1508 oz —and she uses needles, not a knitting machine. She has completed 135 different outfits. The list reads: 38 sweaters, 11 jumpers, 10 pram sets. 22 matinee coats. 25 cardigans, two pairs of

gloves, five paars of mittens, five pairs of bootees, two bed jackets, two pullovers, four children’s suits, two Ladies’ suits, five hats, and two doll outfits. Mrs Mattheman, mother of three boys and a girl, said: “I spend most evenings knitting and watching television. In :n evening, say about four hours, I can make a small child’s cardigan and sew it up.”
