Award For Firemen
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. Special payments for firemen called upon for fires, salvage work, flood damage control or other special calls for which the employer claims payment, are provided for in a new award for fire brigade officers issued by the Arbitration Court.
This is a new provision and payment for such services has been set at 10s for the first hour and 5s for each subsequent half hour.
Basic rates of remuneration have not been altered from the previous award. These range from £22 2s 6d a week for station officers to £25 for third officers in the Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin brigades. The corresponding figures are £2l 15s and £23 5s for other brigades. A qualification bonus has been added, ranging from 5s to 12s 6d a week for the holders of professional qualifications issued by the Fire Engineers’ Institute, the Fire Brigades’ Institute and the Institution of Fire Engineers.
