MELBOURNE.
The Victorian Professional Golfers’ Association is the first body in Australia to adopt a plan against slow play.
It will be used for the first three tournaments of 1966 and if there is an appreciable saving of time it might be introduced on a permanent basis.
The plan is for clockwise putting, with the competitor closest to left of six o'clock as the players walk on t > the green to putt first. He will then finish the hole before the player on his left putts. “There’s been a lot of talk about stow play and as we professionals seem to get the blame for most of it, it’s a good idea that we try and help solve the problem,” said Mr R. Wright, president of the Victorian P.G.A. The Victorian move follows the Australian, Golf Union’s decision to discuss slow play and ways of stopping it, early in the new year.
