Fuller, a fruiterer, of Kaiapoi, at 2.30 a.m. yesterday, when attempting to stop a burglar's get-away car, had to run 50 yards along the road before he could free his hand from the car window. Detectives last evening arrested a 17-year-old youth allegedly involved in the incident. He was charged with burglary and unlawful taking of a car. The detectives were searching for another man late last night Mr Fuller was making up Christmas orders in his shop in Cookson street, opposite Mr Alan Hall’s men’s wear shop. He dropped them and ran down the road and over the bridge. Mr Fuller tried to open the door of the car, but it was locked. Then he tried to get at the driver by putting his hand in the driver’s window, which was two inches open. The car moved off. but did not accelerate. Mr Fuller had his hand stuck and ran alongside until he managed to free it The number of the car was noted bv another shonkeener wakened by the noise. The police later found the car abandoned near Kaiapoi.
