Prisoners Will Fare Well At Christmas
The 200 prisoners at Paparua, 60 at Rolleston and 50 at Addington Prisons will fare well on Christmas Day. For breakfast, they will have coffee or tea, cereals, eggs, bacon and chips, and toast.
For Christmas dinner, the menu will comprise roast hogget, or roast pork, new potatoes, green peas, young carrots and other vegetables, plum duff or fruit salad, ice- , cream and fresh raspberries, fresh fruit, tea or soft drink. ■ The evening meal will be < ham, lettuce salad, tomatoes, fresh fruit, Christmas cake, and soft drinks. The meat, vegetables and raspberries are grown on the ' prison farm and in the gardens at Paparua Prison. i Each prisoner will receive i a Christmas parcel from rela-
tives or friends which may include Christmas cake, cigarettes and tobacco and up to 51b of fresh fruit. Donations Biscuits for the prisoners have been given by Aulsebrook and Company, Ltd., and the Christchurch branch of the Prisoners’ Aid and Rehabilitation Society is providing tinned fruit and icecream The Church Army. St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Returned Services’ Association are also providing Christmas cheer. Combined carol services will be held at the prisons this evening, and Christmas Day services wil also be held. Over the Christmas-New' Year period there will be extra film showings and I organised snorts events for: L he prisoners.
