LONDON, Dec. 22.
Sanctions by 29 countries will lop £5l million off Rhodesia’s annual foreign trade income of about £l3O million, according to British official sources.
The biggest loss of trade will be nearly £36 million worth of tobacco. This includes more than £2O million in lost sales to Britain, nearly £5,500,000 to Germany, £1,500,000 to Japan and more than £1,000,000 to Malaysia and Hong Kong. Sugar sales lost to markets in Britain, Canada and the United States are expected to be £2,260.000.
The embargo on purchases of asbestos will result in a loss of nearly £4,500,000, copper and copper products £2,000,000 and other metals another £2,000,000. Total estimated lost sales to various countries include: Britain, £29,855,000; Austra-
lia, £1,600.000; India, £1,017,000. The estimate was calculated up to December 16, on the basis of the 1964 exports. If Rhodesian trade with Zambia were to end it is estimated that another £35 million would be lost to Rhodesia.
