NEW ORDER OF PLAY

'A NEW order of play has been adopted for the national bowling ehampionships which begin in Christchurch next Monday. In the past the singles and pairs have been played in morning and afternoon sections and it was hoped that this could be avoided. It has been achieved in the pairs but unfortunately it could not be done in the singles but there will be only a few mornings and afternoon sections. For the singles 16 sections will play three games in the morning and another 16 three games in the afternoon. The remaining 32 sections of the 63 sections in the singles will commence play in the morning and play four games straight through. On the second day the sections that played in the morninn and afternoon will link together and play five games while the sections that played four games on the first day will then play another four so at the end of the second day all sections will have played eight games. Another six games should then find the winners of the' sections.

In the pairs there are 51 sections and there will be no break as each section will play throughout the day. As in the singles eight rounds will be played over the two days.

It Is hoped that both the singles and pairs will be finished at the end of the first week when the finals will be played. This of course will depend on whether survivors are in both the singles and pairs. If this is the case then only one section will be decided.

All games in the singles and pairs will be decided on the automatic two life system.

Play in the fours will be section play for the first four days with two games of twenty-five heads being played each day and all four with six or more wins will qualify for post-section play, which will be decided on the sudden death principle.

With 476 fours taking part it will not be possible to complete the fours in one week so the post section play will continue into the third week.

The order of play ris— December 27: singles; December 28: singles. December 29: pain; December 30: pain. December 31: continuation of singles and pain. January 1: continuation of singles and pain to the final of one or both. January 3-6: section play in fours. January 7: Post-sec-tion play in fours. January 8: continuation of postsection play. January 10: continuation to the final.
