Pollard May Not Go (N.Z. Pres, Association) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand allrounder, V. Pollard, has been included in the universities cricket team to tour Australia in January-February. However, Pollard and the Northern District batsman, W. J. Mitchell now at Canterbury University, have been included in the team on a provisional basis. Should they be required for the final Plunket Shield matches they will not go on the universities’ tour beginning on January 26 and ending on February 26. The team will play 11 twoday matches against university teams and a three-day fixture against an Australian Universities XI in Melbourne. The team, announced yesterday by the selector (Mr P. G. Z. Harris), is:— J. E. Barry (Otago, captain), V. Pollard (Massey, vice-cap-tain). C. L. Broad (Lincoln), 0. A. Cox (Uauey), S. G. Edwards (Otago), li. R. Henderson (Canterbury), R. Hutchinson (Otago). A. li. Morrison (Victoria), A. Matatamau (Otago), W. J. Mitchell (Canterbury}, G. S. Thorne (Auckland), G. Gowland (Victoria). A. G. Sotting (Victoria), J. G. Beban (Victoria), J. K. Colling* (Auckland). Mr D. S. M. Crombie (Wellington) will manage the team. Veitch Leads BTeam The former Otago and Canterbury opening batsman, J. R. Veitch (West-Univer-sity), will captain Canterbury B on its tour of Nelson, Marlborough and Motueka. The Canterbury Cricket Association, approving this appointment last evening, also appointed G. T. Barrett (Biocarton) vice-captain, and J. H. M. Dawson (Old Collegians), player-manager. The committee approved the following increases in fees: umpires, £2 a day; scorers, £4 a match; masseur and groundsman, £3 a match. I
