Squash Let-Down

f.V Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The standard of squash in New Zealand has not improved as rapidly as officials have expected. This is stated ir “Fair View,” the official newsletter of the New Zealand Squash Rackets Association. The newsletter says in an editorial that though national players have had every opportunity to match their ability with overseas stars they have not improved. “Let us be realistic and say that even though our players have been getting the best opposition possible it has not resulted in the improvement in the standard that we

would wish for,” the editorial says. The editorial also harshly attacks the lack of dedication of New Zealand players. “It is also obvious that a large number of our top players are not sufficiently dedicated to give up all other pursuits and devote their full time to squash while others lack ‘know-how,’” it states. Professional coaching was required to improve the game, but a panel of amateur coaches could “work wonders” with general players, it says.

“A realistic lead from the national association would be helpful in this direction,” the editorial states.
