Christmas
Sir, —The perennial message of peace to men of good will comes this Christmastide at a time when the challenge of destructive power is the greatest in history. To those who heed the message the primacy of conscience suggests the transfer of soul-sav-ing to life-saving as an integral mission to clarify and absolve our errors and terrors amid the cynicism of power politics. While BX gas is being used in Asia, some halfdozen Polaris submarines are submerged off the coast of China, and throughout the world several hundred thousand missiles and bombs are waiting to be delivered at a moment’s notice. Essential coexistence requires the discarding of warped attitudes and motivated assumptions for that wider vision which allows the recognition of basic universal laws ordained for man’s evolutionary wellbeing. in the spiritual sense, mankind is one, and along the lines of this simple, basic truth the Christian activist must work.—Yours, etc., WEST WIND.
