VIDEOTAPED RACES
Awapuni Trial Successful (N.Z. Press association; PALMERSTON NORTH. Stewards of the Manawatu Racing Club were unanimous in their praise for videotaped races tried for judicial work for the first time last Saturday at the opening of the club’s summer meeting. Although a disappointing level of electrical interference was encountered, mainly because of hurried installation of the equipment, a clear picture was seen on screens in the offices of both the Judicial Committee and the club secretary (Mr W. Freeman). Reporters invited to see showings of several races, found no difficulty in following fields throughout the final three furlongs. In case of faults developing in the videotape, the cameraman shot standard film simultaneously, but it was not necessary to process any. The Manawatu Racing Club is the first club in New Zealand to videotape races.
