Bus Driver Fined
(N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. An Auckland Transport Board bus driver was fined £3O with costs and disqualified from driving for one year by Mr A. A. Coates, SM. in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court today. Joseph Mackie, aged 29, pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless driving causing the death of Francis George Harvey. The charge arose from an accident in Queen street on August 23. A bus driven by Mackie struck a pedestrian near the Fort street intersection, The Magistrate said he was satisfied that Mackie should have seen the pedestrian and that he fatted to stop. He also said that he considered the circumstances did not warrant a prison term. Beside the disqualification from driving, he ordered that Mackie’s licence be endorsed for three yean.
Work On Tunnel. The Manapouri power scheme tailrace tunnel stood at 9654 ft when work stopped for the holiday break on Saturday. TutmeUers achieved 121 ft for the week.—<PA.)
