43 UNDER PAR
Consistent Thomson It is little wonder the great Australian golfer P. W. Thomson, earned more than £l5OO on the New Zealand circuit which finished at Russley on Saturday. In his six tournaments—four of which he won, once jointly with K. D. G. Nagle—Thomson was 43 strokes under par for 414 holes of golf. Nagle, the only other competitor to earn £lOOO, was similarly consistent Only once over par—in the New Zealand Open at Auckland—he was 39 under par for the circuit, including a score of 269 (19 under) in the Forest Products tournament at Tokoroa. Other golfers to beat regulation figures were the Englishman, G. B. Wolstenholme <3O under). South Africa's C Amm (18 under), and the Australians, J. J. Sullivan (24 under), E. A. Ball (14 under). R. J. Stanton (seven under) and B. J. Coxon (1 under). At the other end of the scale were more Australians. R. A. Mesnil, playing the complete circuit of seven tournaments, was 58 strokes over. S Peach, also playing the complete circuit, was 34 over and almost certainly reached his nadir on the sixteenth at Russley where he made excursions onto Memorial avenue and took 11.
The tall, dark Dutchman. M Roesink, was 24 over for the seven tournaments, and others to consistently better par were the Lochiel professional, F. X. Buckler (23 over) C. McGregor (Australia, 22 over), and a little surprisingly, the two young New Zealand professionals, R. R. Newdick (13 over) and W J. Godfrey (10 over).
