Mr Saxby To Retire Early Next Year
A FTER 30 years with the I Department of Agriculture, the Director of the Farm Advisory Division, Mr S. H. Saxby, will retire in February of next year.
Mr Saxby is widely known as an authority on pasture species and their establishment and management in New Zealand. He is author of a standard reference work. “Pasture Production in New Zealand."
He joined the Department of Agriculture as an assistant instructor at Dunedin in 1936 and the next year he was made instructor in agriculture there. He came to Wellington in 1945 as agrostologist and became assistant director of the extension (now farm advisory) division in 1957. Mr Saxby was for several years the secretary of the New Zealand Grassland Association and its president in 1957. In recognition of his work for the association and as organising secretary of the Seventh International Grassland Congress at Palmerston North in 1956 Mr Saxby received the first annual award of the New Zealand Grassland Association when this was instituted in 1957.
Mr Saxby is a past president of the New Zealand Weed and Pest Control Conference.
