TROTTING Thunderina, Queensway For Rangiora Course Double

Thunderina and Queensway, which showed to advantage at Waimate last week, could form the winning on-course doubles combination at the Rangiora Trotting Club’s summer meeting today.

Thunderina recorded her third second placing from her last four starts when she beat all but Local Star over 13 furlongs. She was closing rapidly on the leaders when Chaman ran out at the straight entrance. Thunderina lost several lengths working dear of that horse. She finished in grand style once in the open. Thunderina is long overdue for a win, which should come in the Oxford Handicap, the first leg of today’s course double. Fireaway paced a useful race for fifth at Waimate and he will have to show very little improvement to be a serious threat to Thunderina. Fort Worth, which has drawn badly, Bryan John, Toff Scott, Option and Winning Song are others capable of racing prominently. Queensway suggested an early win when she finished fast from an awkward position for fourth behind Money Wise at Waimate.

Queensway’s placing was her best effort since she was injured in a fall at trials in

September. The 12 furlongs in today’s Femside Handicap should suit her. Efficacious paced an improver's race for second to Money Wise at Waimate. At times she has looked quite useful and she should be one of the brighter prospects. She will be bracketed with Admire, a fair fifth at Addington on December 4. Lornaway and Rainford Boy will form another useful bracket. Lomaway has raced most generously lately and *she should again show up. Adorato, Epona, Eyreton -and Young Lad appeal most of the others. The T.A.B. double will be -run on the Rangiora Cup and the Challenge Stakes, Bright Highland and Co Pilot formring a likely combination.
