CHAMBERS SUGGEST STAGGERED LEAVE

"The Prctt" Spacial Service WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. The stumbling block on the road to staggered holidays in New Zealand is school holidays, the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand feds The association has called a meeting from which it hopes a resolution to remove the stumbling block will go to the Government The association has invited 31 organisations to send representatives to the meeting.

The resolution that the association hopes the meeting will pass on to the Government is: "That the Government should be advised to take immediate steps to advance the school year by one month so that the end-of-year and firstterm holidays would fall within the months of October and April inclusive, thus encouraging the ‘staggering* of family and other holidays.** The association says in a circular that it continues to be concerned over the national economic waste and distortions caused by the virtual shut-down of activity over the Christmas and New Year period because that time was the universal time for annual holidays. Although the question of staggered holidays had been discussed at a previous conference the association felt it was overdue for another review. The earlier conference made it clear that school holidays, tied up with school examination dates, were the main stumbling Mock to staggered holidays.
