BRONZE TROPHY
London Gift To Wanganui "The Preen" Special Service OTAKI. The British Bloodstock Agency, London, has given a sculptured bronze of a thoroughbred horse in action to the Wanganui Jockey Club as a permanent challenge trophy. The bronze is by Jean Walwyn, a noted English sculp, tress, and is valued at 500gns. The trophy will be attached to the Jackson Stakes, a mile weight-for-age event which is run at the club's autumn meeting. The race was established in 1902 and among its winners are such high-class horses as Achilles (three times). Machine Gun, Biplane, Gloaming (four times), Tamatete, Reremoana (twice). Voltaic (three times). Golden Tan (twice). Red Jester, Cadiz, and Rochdale (twice). The Reefton Jockey Club has sold a half share in the Reefton racecourse to the Reefton Trotting Club, which also races on the course.
