SAIL AWAY IMPRESSES

Fine Trial At Woodville "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Sail Away’s semi-final trial for the Manawatu Challenge Stakes attracted most attention during a quiet morning’s work at Woodville yesterday. The gelding, although not long returned from an arduous Australian campaign, looks forward and fit for his weekend engagement on the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club's Christmas meeting. Working on the No. 1 grass, which was fast and dry. Sail Away ran once around and then began a strong gallop near the mile, completing his work with seven furlongs in Imin 31sec, the final six alongside Ben Bella in Imin 17sec.

Sir Torre, a candidate for the President’s Handicap tomorrow and the Manawatu Cup the folowing week, afterwards strode over five furlongs in Imin 3)sec, accompanied by Paper Kiwi. At the line Sir Torre, was half a length behind his companion, but working well. The fastest half-mile was run by Strontian with Aorangi. Strontian covered the distance in 49 l-ssec, taking 36sec for his final three. It proved him fit and ready to resume racing in tomorrow’s sprint
