TROTTING Bright Highland Due For Win At Rangiora
Bright Highland should gain an overdue first win for the season for her Templeton breeder, Mr J. T. Taylor, in the Rangiora Cup tomorrow. This is the main race and first leg of the TA.B. double at the Rangiora Trotting Club’s summer meeting.
Bright Highland fought on gamely for second behind Buchanan at the New Brighton meeting earlier in the month. At her previous start she was second behind Vista Abbey at the end of a fast 13 furlongs on the final night of the cup meeting last month.
Bright Highland is a fine stayer and if she begins reasonably well should be much too good for most of her rivals tomorrow.
Flight Adios failed at his last start in the Geraldine Cup after starting from 36 yards. His form at the cup meeting was of a high standard and he looked ready to win at short notice when he paraded at the Methven trials on Tuesday. He is one of the best stayers in his class and is entitled to be one of the favourites in this race. Indecision will be in demand after his decisive win in the Waimate Cup last Saturday. He has drawn favourably and should be prominently placed all the way. The rise in class in this race should not trouble him.
Flying Over, Legendary and Ulove appeal most of the others on the limit, and Tuarangi Chief and Town Martial should do best of the four horses on 36 yards. Betting will be well spread in the second leg, the Challenge Stakes, a race for three and four-year-olds.
Co Pilot, a narrow but impressive winner in the Orari Challenge Stakes a fortnight ago, looks favourbly placed on the limit to win again. He looks in great heart and went pleasingly at the Methven trials on Tuesday. Abbey Frost won at Addington earlier in the month when having his first start at a totalisator meeting. The half-brother to Vista Abbey looks ready to extend his record at short notice. If he is to have a chance in the New Zealand Champion Stakes on December 27, he will have to make a bold showing in this field. He will be bracketed with Roydon Prince, which will be set a difficult task from 24 yards. Chief Command, a most consistent young pacer, has been second at his last three starts. He should again be prominent. He will be bracketed with Local Star, an easy winner at Waimate last week.
Lustre Scott, Maluka, Gold Boa and Bronze Lad are four other capable pacers on the limit, and the Oaks winner, Have Care, and Batavia should do best of the remainder. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast. ON-COURSE DOUBLE
