Very few changes in the placings in the senior cricket competition are likely when the fifth round ends tomorrow.
The top teams, Lancaster Park and Sydenham, are in sound positions, and only St. Albans of the bottom four sides is likely to force its way through. The match between Lancaster Park and Old Boys appears destined for a first innings result Lancaster Park made 238 and Old Boys, batting very grimly, were 26 for one at stumps.
C. Motz turns on another of his demoralising batting displays. St. Albans, at 152 for five, chasing 184, is in a handsome position against WestUniversity, particularly with its captain, S. C. Guillen, batting so well. Old Collegians have a 60run lead over East-Shirley but the latter has shown hints of returning to batting form recently. The result could be quite close.
Their chief hurdle will be the successful spinners, B. C. Irving and D. J. McKendry. Sydenham leads Riccarton on the first innings and already has claimed three of that team’s second innings wickets. Another fine pair of spinners, D. L. Gallop and J. M. Mclntyre, may prove too cunning for the erratic Riccarton batsmen, unless R.
