ILAM FIRE ESCAPE

County Wants Alteration The University of Canterbury has been told by the Waimairi County Council that a fire escape on the circular lecture theatre of the School of Engineering at Ham does not comply with the New Zealand standard building bylaws. This was reported by the town-planning committee at last night’s meeting of the council, which was asked to confirm action taken by the senior building inspector (Mr R. Robertson) in directing that the fire escape be altered to comply. The university had queried the directive, and had asked in what way the fire escape did not comply. A reply bad been sent explaining the position, the committee reported. The action taken by the inspector was confirmed.
