AVON SIDE G.H.S.
Classrooms Needed Temporary prefabricated classrooms had a habit of becoming permanent, and this could happen at Avonside Girls* High School, said the chairman of the school’s board of governors (Dr. G. Jobberns) at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday afternoon. Dr. Jobberns said that the Department of Education had approved one new prefabricated classroom for next year, but with the estimated roll of 850 girls, a further .classroom would probably be needed in the near future. The headmistress (Miss P. M. Stevenson) said that the new prefabricated classroom would bring the number at the school to five. What was really needed was a permanent classroom block of six rooms, she said. The board decided to write to the department indicating the future classroom needs of the school. Two new teaching appointments were approved by the board. They were Mr E. S. Wilson, who will teach science and mathematics, and Miss R. E. Best, who will teach English and French.
