WARNING OF POSSIBLE P.K.I. UNDERGROUND MOVE
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, December 13. A senior Indonesian Army officer has warned that the Indonesian Communist Party (P.K.1.) could become an underground movement and eventually regain much of its lost power.
Major-General Junus Mokoginta was quoted by the official Antara news agency today as saying that although the P.K.I. appeared to have been crushed, they could still begin underground operations.
General Mokoginta pointed out that the previous unsuccessful Communist revolution had been put down only 17 years ago.
Antara also reported today that another area commander had made the latest ban order against the P.K.I. to cover the district under his command in Borneo.
Regional military commanders in six provinces and one naval commander have al-
ready banned the party and its affiliates in their areas, including Djakarta.
In West Sumatra and East Borneo there have been further purges of people believed to have been associated with the coup attempt. Mass Rally
In Djakarta yesterday 5000 students staged a mass rally pressing President Sukarno to dissolve the Communist Party immediately. The demonstration called for an immediate purge of Communists and unnamed coup supporters of the Cabin-
et and central intelligence service, an armed forces bulletin reported. And in Medan, North Sumatra, thousands of people held an anti-Communist mass rally on Saturday demanding the complete dissolution of the Communist Party. In an address to officials of the Antara news agency last night, President Sukarno warned the agency to write only “true things” which benefitted the Indonesian revolution. President Sukarno said Antara should become the tool
of the revolution, and not any political party. The occasion was the agency’s 28th anniversary.
