FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A belt of high pressure extends from the south-east Tasman across New Zealand to an anti-cyclone east of the North Island. Forecast:—

Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Light or variable winds, north-easterlies predominating on the coast. Areas of low cloud or fog, with few patches of light drizzle at first. Otherwise mainly fine, apart from isolated afternoon showers on the alps. Warm day temperatures away from the coast. Marlborough, except Kaikoura Coast.—Fresh north-westerlies in exposed areas. Some areas of low cloud and fog at first Otherwise mainly fine and warm, apart from isolated showers developing over the ranges. Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds. Some areas of low cloud or fog, with a few drizzle patches at first. Otherwise mainly fine and mild, or warm, but isolated afternoon showers developing on the ranges.
