Deferred Pay For Troops In S.E. Asia
(New Zealand Press Association' WELLINGTON, December 9. Tax-free deferred pay of 9s a day for officers and 7s a day for other ranks will be paid to Army units serving in special zones in South-east Asia. The special zones at present are Vietnam and Borneo.
Deferred pay which will apply to Navy and Air Force personnel in the two zones, will be back-dated to July, 1965, and payable when the soldiers, sailors and airmen return to New Zealand.
An adjustment of location allowances for personnel in Vietnam and Borneo—bringing them on to common rates in the two zones—also was announced today. This will take effect from September 1. 1965. , The continuation of other location allowances for personnel in South-east Asia, other than those on liaison staff appointments, has been approved. AH location allowances, however, are subject to review by a committee which
will begin its investigations soor.
Approval has also been given for the payment of a field allowance under the new pay code to Army and Air Force personnel in service in South-east Asia. This allowance will be at the rate of 2s a day and, broadly, will be paid when serving under “field" conditions.
