ANA RUPENE AND CHILD is one of the most admired of Gottfried Lindauer’s paintings. It drew many tributes at the World Fair at St Louis, in the United States, in 1904, when it was awarded the exhibition’s Grand Prize, and Lindauer was asked to accept a gold medal. A selection from the Partridge collection of Lindauer’s paintings has been published by A. H. and A. W. Reed under the title, “Maori Paintings.” The book is reviewed on this page.
