Secondary Inspector
Mr E. S. Middlemass has been appointed to the secondary school inspectorate in the southern district. Mr’ Middlemass was educated at King’s High School and graduated from
Otago University with honours in history. He trained at the Dunedin Teachers’ College. Mr Middlemass has taught at Gore High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School and Cashmere High School where he was head, of the history department. He also had a year’s teaching in England. Mr Middlemass is the teachers’ representative on the Christchurch history curriculum committee. He is co-editor of the “Historical News,” a journal published by the University of Canterbury history department and is a committee member of the Canterbury Historical Association. Mr Middlemass has played senior Rugby and is interested' in golf, ski-ing and drama. Mr Middlemass will begin duties at the beginning of the first term, 1966. He and Mr J. Haglund will be jointly responsible for history, geography -and social studies in the southern district of the Education Department.
