DEMAND HIGH

Lake Tekapo Sheep Sale The first’sale at this time of the year was held at Lake Tekapo this week. Only three stations sent sheep forward, but it is understood that the sale is lakedy to be given more support in the future. The yarding totalled 2061. On account of rough weather some lines dad not reach the sale, and on other properties shearing made it difficult to get sheep to the sale. One observer said that it might be desirable for the sale to be held a week or two later bn the next occasion. All of the sheep were Merinos, and annual draft wethers made from 29s to 30s, mixed-age wethers 355, twotooth wethers 57s to 67s r fourtooth wethers 575, three-shear wethers 50s 6d and two-tooth ewes 45s to 60s 6d. Prices were considered satisfactory for two-tooth wethers with values for those selling around the 66s mark being well in excess of expectations. However, older wethers were considered re.tsonable enough, taking into account their size and condition. The attendance was not large but the representation extended from Central Otago to Blenheim. The demand proved to be greater than the supply of sheep. Most of the sheep were purchased for local destinations, but some were acquired for Blenheim. The stock were In good order, being well grown and in good condition. Details of sales were: Haldon station: 350 annual draft wethers at 30s, 107 twotooth wethers at 675, 118 twotooth ewes at 58s. Grays Hills station: 210 mixed-aged wethers at 355, 58 two-tooth wethers at 575, 53 four-tooth wethers at 575, and 48 three-shear wethers at 50s 6d, 69 two-tooth ewes at 455. Black Forest station: 478 annual draft wethers at 295, 356 two-tooth wethers at 66s 6d, 209 two-tooth ewes at 60s 6d.
