The appointee will be responsible to the Financial Secretary of the Cook Islands Government for the day-to-day running of the Treasury and Customs Department. Duties will include drafting annual estimates, preparation of financial reports, initiating and policing internal check and accounting procedures in Departments, administering the Workers’ Compensation Ordinance, price control investigations, oversight of work, import licensing and generally acting the Deputy to the Financial Secretary. SALARY: £1605 p.a. on the Unified Salary Scale. Allowances of £lBO p.a. for wife, £5B p.a. for each child, and a deferred location allowance of £BO p.a. for a married man, and £4O deferred location allowance for a single man. VACANCY NO. 4414: ACCOUNTANT, FRUIT CONTROL, SCHEME, RAROTONGA. The appointee will be responsible for keeping the financial and stopes accounts of the Cook Islands Fruit Control Scheme, which handles export marketing of citrus fruits, bananas, and pineapples. The scheme processes and packs fruit for export and is alp involved in production through its development schemes. SALARY: Will be up to £l4OO a year with prospects of advancement to £ISQO a year, depending upon qualifications and experience. Allowances of £lBO p.a. for wife, £5B p.a. for each child, and a deferred rotation allowance of £BO p.a. for a married man, and £4O p.a. deferred location allowance for a single man. QUALIFICATIONS (etc. for vacancies 4413 and 4414): Appointees will be expected to have accounting Qualifications, together with office management experience. ACCOMMODATION: A house with heavy furniture would be available to a married officer. For a single man board would be available at the Hotel Rarotonga at £6 per week, exclusive of laundry. FURLOUGH: One month on full pay for each year of service, subject to satisfactory completion of term. Local leave granted annually on the same basis as in New Zealand, except in furlough year. TAXATION: Social security tax and New Zealand income tax are not payable, but local income tax applies. Rates are lower than in New Zealand, being based on 6cl in the pound on the first £lOO of taxable income. Personal exemption is £3OO. GENERAL: Appointment will be by way of secondment for a period of three years in the first instance, with status in the New Zealand Public Service preserved and reviewed annually.
