OPPOSED BY RUSSIA
Independence For Rhodesia (N.Z. Press Association) 1 WELLINGTON, November 3. The case of Rhodesia could be the first time in history that a Russian Government had opposed a country gaining independence, the Russian Minister to New Zealand (Mr ,B. Z. Dorofeev) said today. He said the Russian people and the Russian Government always stood on the side of people seeking liberation. However, the Rhodesian Prime Minister (Mr Smith), in seeking independence appeared to wish to create a state similar to South Africa. If this was so it would mean that a white minority would dominate the Negroes. “We think it is wrong,” said Mr Dorofeev.
