Many New Members
Many new members, especially younger people, had been enrolled in the Christchurch area group of the Pan Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association during the last year. Individual membership stood at 195, the president (Mrs G. W. Fairweather) reported to the annual meeting last evening. The chief study group had continued to meet each fortnight. The group had been fortunate in obtaining several people to give first-hand information on conditions overseas. The meetings had kept many of the older members in touch with activities. Two major activities for International Co-operation Year had been the youth seminar on international friendship and a social evening to entertain members of Pacific communities living in Christchurch. Both had attracted a good response. Cheerful letters had been received on the progress of the group’s sponsored child in Hong Kong , and its Korean family. Sponsorship of both would continue. C.0.R.5.0. had again assisted in forwarding an annual gift of milk powder to Aitutaki. and a donation had again been made to the combined appeal for university halls of residence. Many overseas students had been welcomed at meetings, and members had extended hospitality to private students and those under Government schemes.
