FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—The anti-cyclone centred to the north of the North Island remains slow-moving. A weak cold front is moving across central New Zealand. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds, tending northerly later; some scattered showers in the western ranges, elsewhere partly cloudy; moderate temperatures.

Marlborough.—North-west winds, freshening later; variable skies with little change in temperatures; some drizzle or light rain early this morning.

Nelson.—Moderate variable winds mainly between north and west; mainly cloudy; moderate temperatures; some areas of rain in the west and south-west ranges.

Buller and . Westland.—Moderate to fresh winds mainly between north and west; mainly fair at first, but rain spreading from the south later in the day; moderate temperatures. Outlook: Unsettled, with periods of rain on the West Coast; elsewhere rather cloudy. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
