Ways To Peace

Sir, —All nations today profess themselves to be peaceloving. Small wonder that cynicism claims so many of us. Yet it need not if we are prepared to examine the problems that disturb man. The glorification of war and the implicit condemnation of the other side are no ways for intelligent people to solve problems which they barely understand. Force solves nothing, but induces, through. intolerance and bestiality, onlyfurther problems. The

“goods" which enrich human life come not from the liquidation of those who may think differently from ourselves, but from the consideration of other points of view. In time man may come to realise that from resultant bitterness and sense of injustice. Evil resides possibly in neither friend nor foe initially, but quite certainly in war itself. So as we are opposed to evil we must oppose war. Open conflict is beneath contempt, derogatory to the human intellect, puerile and futile.— Yours, etc., CLIFFORD H. BROWN. November 3, 1965.
