Surf Riding Success

'pHE recent national surf board riding championships at New Plymouth brought a measure of distinction to the recentlyformed Christchurch club, Breakwater. The club has been in existence only since May and a member, I. Ellingsford, has been riding seriously only since that time, but in the senior final at New Plymouth he was placed fourth. This was a particularly fine achievement as the first three placed are all emigrated Australians who have had a fair taste of competition in the sport. It was also Ellingsford’s first championship. This success, and also the arrival of J. McDermott, the former New Zealand titleholder who was second this year, in Christchurch, has spurred the Breakwater club on and it now intends to hold an inter-club contest monthly and is running a Canterbury championship early in the new year.
