JAMMED METER

Wrote Cheque For 3d <N Z Press Association/ WHANGAREI, Nov. 1. A motorist wrote a cheque for 3d before leaving his car parked in Rust avenue, Whangarei. The meter had jammed and would not take his coin so he wrote out a valid cheque for the amount and attached it to the meter with tape. The Whangarei Branch of the Transport department has decided that his brand of honesty is worth a gesture of thanks and will send the cheque back to its owner. Chief Traffic Officer R. O. Wilkinson said that in his 11 years of dealing with parking meters he had never come across such an original case of honesty.
