Magistrate's Court BURGLAR REMANDED FOR SENTENCE

Donald Allan Stewart, aged 19, a truclt driver, was convicted and remanded in custody to November 4 for sentence when he appeared before Mr H. J. Evans, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of burglary at Dunedin. He pleaded guilty. Senior - Sergeant G, M. Cleary, who prosecuted, said that at 2 a.m. on August 9 the jewellery shop of Thomas Alexander McAuliffe. 191 King Edward street, Dunedin, was broken into. The front window was smashed, and women’s rings and a clock were taken. The total value of the stolen goods was £4l ss. The clock was found in a railway siding near the Dunedin Railway Station. When interviewed, the accused frankly admitted he was responsible. He refused to say whether he had been alone. He said he broke the window with his shoe, reached in, and took the articles. FINED, DISQUALIFIED Pleading guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, Trevor James GibMng, aged 24, an insurance trainee, was fined £4O and disqualified from driving for three years. Senior-Sergeant Cleary said that at 1.35 a.m. on October 31 Gibiing ran his car into the gutter in Riccarton road and hit a lamp-post. The car moved 30 yards down the road and stopped at an angle of 45 degrees to .the line of traffic. The accused, who was unsteady on his feet, could not remember anything about the accident. FINED £lO Appearing on three charges arising from an incident in Cathedral square on October 29, Colin Tihi, aged 19, a labourer, was convicted on each. He was fined £5 on a charge of using obscene language and £5 on a charge of resisting a constable in the execution of his duty, and ordered to pay costs on a charge of obstructing the footpath. He pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Cleary said the accused was standing on the footpath near Chancery lane at 8.35 p,m. and was asked to move because he was obstructing pedestrians. He refused, and after being asked a third time was arrested. He struggled violenty and used the obscene words. INSULTING LANGUAGE Alan Edward Faass, aged 22, a stock-cutter, pleaded guii’ty to a charge of using insulting language in Cathedral square on October 29 and was convicted and fined £lO. Senior-Sergeant Cleary said the accused invited a constable to take his helmet off and “haVe a go’’ because he. did not like his number. He used the language complained of outside the Plaza Arcade. DISORDERLY On a charge of disorderly behaviour in Cathedral square on October 29, Richard Keith Young, aged 22, a rubber worker, was convicted and fined £5. He pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Cleary said the accused jeered and carried on in a disorderly manner in front of his friends during a disturbance in Cathedral square. DISQUALIFIED DRIVER Chester Myron Morrell,

aged 22, a welder (Mr D. H. Stringer), was convicted and fined £4O and disqualified from driving for a further year on a charge of driving while disqualified in Bar badges street on October 30. He pleaded guilty. FIREARM BREACH Kevin Joseph Lawler, aged 19, an apprentice tailor (Mr G. T.'Mahon), was convicted and fined £1 on a charge of obtaining a firearm without a permit on April 4. He pleaded guilty. LIQUOR NEAR DANCE Paul Brian Herrick, aged 17, a labourer, was fined £l5 on charges of having liquor near a dance on July 10, failing to supply particulars to a constable, and having no driver’s licence. On the latter charge he was disqualified from driving for six months. On a charge of having no warrant of fitness he was convicted and fined £l. ATTACK BY DOG Mary Josephine Early was convicted and discharged on a charge of having a dog which attacked a person on September 17. UNREGISTERED DOG Leslie Jacob Keene was convicted and fined £1 10s on a charge of having an unregistered dog on September 2. REMANDED Maxwell Carlton Carney, aged 42, an engineer, was remanded on bail to today on a charge of stealing a wallet and contents and . a missal, of a total value of £4, the property of Colin Vincent. He was also remanded to November 4 on a charge of driving under the influence of drink or drugs on the Christchurch-Lyttelton tunnel road on October 30. Garry Kenneth Bates, aged 18, was remanded on bail to November 4 on a charge of obstructing a footpath in Cathedral square on October 29. He pleaded not guilty. Frederick Arthur Rumble (Mr M. J. Glue) was remanded on bail to November 11 on a charge of indecent assault on a eirl aged seven on October 30. Barry James Wheat, aged 18. Eric Kochar, aged 19, and Albert Eric Lye, aged 18. were remanded on bail to November 4 nn a joint charge of theft of goods valued at £5 5s from Lawrence Meaclem on October 31. Russell William Todd, aged 20. a fire-alarm technician, was remanded on bail to November 11 on a charge of burgling on October 31 the nremises of McKilloos Sports Supplies. Ltd., Seaview road. New Brighton. A man, whose name was sunoressed, was remanded on bai’ to November 4 on a charge of obstructing the footpath in Oathedral square on October 29. LIQUOR OFFENCES Offenders under the Sale of Liquor Act were fined as follows: Manager sold liquor after, hours: Claronce William Noel Jefferies, £l5. Minor on licensed premisesKevin Joseph McDonald, £4 (gave false particulars. £4): Hugh MacLeay, £5; Hamish Reid, £5. Liquor near dance: Stephen Arthur Gedge, £5.
