Law Students’ Latin Optional

(N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 1. Latin was now an optional course for students studying law at New Zealand universities, Professor C. C. Aikman, dean of the faculty of law at the Victoria University of Wellington, said today. He had been asked to comment on a cable message from London today, that Latin terms may soon be banished from Britain’s legal documents. The report quoted Mr Justice Scarman, chairman of the newly-formed Law Commission. Professor Aikman also said that it was not the practice for law draughtsmen in New Zealand to use any Latin in preparing legislation.
